As a Principal Consultant European Energy Markets, you will deliver high-quality analysis of the financial aspects of energy markets, strategies and questions related to investment and commercialisation within our brand-new location in Brussels, Belgium. You take the lead in drafting proposals for clients for future projects and train team members. You are eager to bring structure and knowledge to the new Belgian hub to accelerate the energy transition.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• MSc or PhD in Energy Economics, Finance or similar

• A solid understanding of electricity markets (long-term, day-ahead, intraday, balancing markets and capacity markets), their functioning, design, and dynamics as well as of the relevant market developments in Europe and investment and hedging instruments, such as PPAs and CfDs

• Thorough understanding of the regulatory framework on European electricity market integration (EMDR, CACM Guideline, FCA Guideline, EBGL) and financial regulation (e.g. EMIR, REMIT, CSDR), preferably with specific knowledge on Belgian energy market (electricity, gas, others)

• Around 10 years of experience in (economic) electricity market analysis and experience with creating leads and taking ownership of complete assignments from defining scope with clients, creating proposals, and successfully creating and presenting the outcomes

• Extensive network within the European energy landscape, within TSOs, DSOs, market operators, traders and flexibility providers and preferably within the Belgian electricity and gas market

• Ability to make new and maintain professional relationships.

• Affinity with (business) diplomacy / stakeholder management within the European context

• Very strong analytical skills, including forward and creative thinking, ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and convey them succinctly

• Excellent communication skills, able to listen to and engage people

• Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g. PowerBI) and data analysis tools (R, Python or similar) and relevant Python libraries is a plus

• Knowledge of sector coupling (gas, hydrogen, mobility) is a plus

• High degree of autonomy including experience with project management, motivation to get things done and proactive problem-solving attitude

• Professional fluency in English (minimum C1), and preferably fluent in Dutch and/or French, another European language is a plus

• A visa/permit to work in the Netherlands or another EU country with our presence and openness to travel abroad (project-dependent)
